The Year of the Relay

The Year of the Relay

From me to you… the ever-growing popularity of relay challenges.

Have you been thinking of offering a unique and bespoke challenge for your company or charity, but can’t decide what? What is going to work for the most amount of people? Have you thought about doing a relay challenge? You could pass the baton or the rugby ball…

This year sees us take on a variety of relay challenges including walking and cycling.

Our first one is already underway with over 600 people walking the Wales Coast Path in 26 days in support of Velindre, the Welsh Cancer Charity, with the match ball for the Wales v France 6 Nations rugby game being carried the whole way.

For more information on this event you can read our last newsletter or go to maxwell.foundation/fight-against-cancer-walk/.

This summer we will cycle over 300 miles in 5 days from the north to the south of England, via Wrexham, in Wales. This will be a series of short relay routes with people joining for a choice of 3 x 20 mile legs each day over the 5 days. Each cycling group will carry a special baton representing the length and breadth of care homes participating in Care Home Open Week. The baton will be handed over at each Home hosting a stop along the route.

Following the firing of the start gun, the first peloton of cyclists will travel through Cheshire to reach North Wales on the first day. The following days will then cover the picturesque landscapes of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, West Midlands, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Middlesex and then finishing in Central London where a Great British warm welcome will greet the travelling social care baton and cyclists.
