BADGERS – THE TOUR DE YORKSHIRE, 10TH – 13TH JUNE 2021

BADGERS – THE TOUR DE YORKSHIRE, 10TH – 13TH JUNE 2021

  • BADGERS - THE TOUR DE YORKSHIRE, 10TH – 13TH JUNE 2021
    June 10, 2021 - June 13, 2021
    8:00 am - 5:00 pm

As Benjamin Franklin once said “out of adversity comes opportunity”. Unable to go to Europe this year, we have turned towards the wonderful countryside that is the Great British Isles to look for the home of the best cycling. We found it in “God’s Own Country”, Yorkshire.

We will once again be on the tail of the professional teams as we pick up the highlights of the 2014 Tour de France through the amazing Yorkshire Dales countryside and try our luck on climbs like the infamous Buttertubs. Along the way there will be empty roads, rolling hills, stunning scenery, impressive food and, of course, amazing cycling! We will be based for 3 days at the **** Cedar Court Hotel on the edge of the Stray in Harrogate. Harrogate was a host town of the Tour de France in 2014 and was also the main host of the UCI World Road Championships – there is huge cycling history here.

NB Please note the rooms at the Cedar Court Hotel have now all been filled. If you wish to join the Tour, the cost will be £795 without accommodation to enable you to book the accommodation of your choice. All meals will be at the Cedar Court as per the full package.

The Badger’s Tour will follow the usual successful formula of 3 route options a day, each of different difficulties, guided riding, support vehicles, medics, transport of bikes from Brooklands, Surrey, to the start and back, a minimum of 3 food and drink stops a day, post ride snacks, excellent evening meals and accommodation, finish celebrations, and amazing cycling.

Dates: June 10th – 13th 2021

Cost per person: £995

Includes all food (including malt loaf!), 3 nights accommodation, jersey x 1, drinks with meals, a drinks reception on our last evening, post ride snacks, guides, medics, 3 route options per day, return transport of bikes Brooklands / Harrogate / Brooklands, etc.

Covid

Although at the time of writing, we are looking forward to a slight relaxation of the Covid “Rules”, and many Badgers will have been vaccinated by the start of the Tour, we will still be mindful of the regulations and our part in reducing the spread of the virus.

  • We ask you not to attend the Tour of Yorkshire if you have any symptoms.
  • We ask if you have not had a vaccine that you get tested for Coronavirus to reduce transmission. There are council run test centres available for people to attend to see if they are asymptomatic. You will receive the test results in 30 minutes by text or email. If you have a positive test result within 3 days of arriving on the Tour we ask that you do not attend the Tour.
  • Although we will spend most of the day outdoors, indoors it will still be the law to wear a face mask while moving around inside. Please therefore bring a mask to wear while at the refreshment stops during the day and in the communal areas of the hotel.
  • The dining room we will be using will be only filled to 50% capacity.
  • We believe that the Rule of 6 will be imposed over the meals in the hotel. This means we will not be seated in our riding groups. Please respect this rule.
  • Where possible wash your hands. Where not possible there will be plenty of hand sanitiser gel in our vans, at the stops and in the hotel so please use them liberally.
  • Give people space – not everyone will have been vaccinated.

Carbon offsets:

If you are driving please consider offsetting your carbon emissions via one of the many carbon offset schemes around. To calculate your carbon emissions from your start location toHarrogate check here.

We have found the below list of carbon offset providers to be financially efficient but if you have one that you would prefer to use, please share it with us so we can add it here.

Testimonial from a Previous Rider

I’ve ridden many time on pie events over the years, and I can say without fear of contradiction they are superb. And that word applies to all the essential components of a great trip – the organisation, accommodation, food, guiding, support, location and routing. Oh – I left out the craic and camaraderie as well!

Action Medical Research

Action Medical Research are a UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research.

Action fund a broad range of cutting-edge medical research most likely to deliver real benefit to babies, children and young people. With the help of our supporters, we raise funds to make vital research possible. We want to make a difference in premature birth, pregnancy complications and treating sick and vulnerable babies, as well as in preventing infections and helping children affected by disabilities, disabling conditions and rare diseases.

You can find the fundraising link here:

https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/Badgers2021?success=true.

This year the Badgers are also going to #backtheboat by supporting Team Elijah’s Star, four men (including two of our own Badgers – Dean Frost & Phil Bigland) who are setting off in December to row across the Atlantic in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

Team Elijah’s Star are supporting Action Medical Research’s vital work to shine a spotlight on the impact premature birth has on babies and their families and to help fund more research that can save lives. The team have taken their name from baby Elijah, a premature but much-loved son and brother, who sadly lived for just 37 days.

Fundraising

We encourage Badgers to raise money for / make donations to Action Medical Research if they wish. If you wish to make a donation to AMR please contact Sarah Stevenson for more information SStevenson@action.org.uk.

pie Guides

The Badger’s Tour is a guided ride with groups being led by pie guides who are familiar with the terrain and who help all abilities complete the challenge. For those not familiar with the pie guiding system:

  • We offer guided rides to make sure we offer the very best care to our cyclists
  • All of our guides are experienced cyclists. They range from ex-professional racers to keen amateurs and all are very used to guiding groups of differing abilities, experience and skills
  • All of our guides will navigate their small group of 8 – 10 cyclists from start to finish
  • They are on hand to do mechanical work so there is no waiting around for a mechanic’s van
  • Many pie guides are first aid trained
  • On most days cyclists can change groups (up or down) at any time during the day
  • We make the ride suitable for most standards of cyclists (bar complete beginners) – check the minimum daily distances and elevations to make sure you are happy with your level of fitness vs the challenge above, and then start some training to minimise the gap!
  • Meet the team!
