Covid

It is difficult to predict how Covid-19 will affect this trip so far in the future, but rest assured we will take every precaution to keep our riders safe. We expect the majority of riders will be fully vaccinated, but it is important that we maintain good practice:

  • We ask you not to attend the trip if you have any symptoms.
  • As per the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust’s trip and events policies we will ask all riders to return a negative lateral flow test before joining up with the group. There may also be a requirement to test during the event itself.
  • Where possible wash your hands. Where not possible there will be plenty of hand sanitiser gel in our vans, at the stops and in the hotel so please use them liberally.
  • Give people space – not everyone will have been vaccinated.
  • all pie staff are double vaccinated and will have tested negative via a lateral flow test before the event start

All entry fees will be refunded in full if the event is cancelled due to Covid-19.

Insurance – travel and bike

  • pie is delighted to be an approved partner of Yellow Jersey Cycle Insurance. Get 10% off using the code pieevents10.
  • We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance in advance. In our experience the main reason for using it is if you have to cancel for an insurable reason rather than an accident while on the ride

Testimonial from a previous rider

“I’ve ridden many time on pie events over the years, and I can say without fear of contradiction they are superb. And that word applies to all the essential components of a great trip – the organisation, accommodation, food, guiding, support, location and routing. Oh – I left out the craic and camaraderie as well!”

Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust inspires young people aged 8-24 to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer.

Through sailing and outdoor adventure, young people feel…

  • Accepted – they meet and make friends with others who have had similar experiences – often for the first time – and stop feeling like ‘the only one’.
  • Independent – they rediscover independence away from home and outside of their ‘cancer bubble’. They begin to realise what they are capable of again, physically, mentally, and socially.
  • Optimistic – they experience an increased sense of purpose and self-worth and can start to take the next step towards re-establishing their place in the world by getting back into education or employment and reconnecting with their friends and families.

For many young people, simply picking up where they left off before their diagnosis isn’t possible. That is why when treatment ends, our work begins.

Fundraising

We kindly ask all riders to pledge to fundraise a minimum of £1,650 for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust upon registration. The fundraising is in addition to the cost of the trip. This will enable three young people to join a Trust sailing trip in 2022.

Corporate Event Sponsorship:

We have a range of sponsorship opportunities available to companies or individuals who would like to support the event. This is a great opportunity to become part of the Trust community and enable us to produce our most high-profile fundraising event of the year, along with some great PR benefits for you or your company.

Corporate Event Sponsorship:

We have a range of sponsorship opportunities available to companies or individuals who would like to support the event. This is a great opportunity to become part of the Trust community and enable us to produce our most high-profile fundraising event of the year, along with some great PR benefits for you or your company.

The two key outcomes of any sponsorship will be:

Creating subsidised or free places on the ride for young people who are either currently being supported by the Trust or who were once supported and are now trip volunteers. Providing this once in a lifetime opportunity to young people who have expressed interest, but need some financial support, would allow them to take on this iconic event and raise funds for a charity close to their heart.

Bringing down the overall event cost to the individual riders, allowing them to concentrate on their fundraising for the Trust, with the option to donate the money saved towards their fundraising efforts. Support towards lowering the event cost will also help to make the event more accessible, help us fill all the rider places, and give us the best chance to raise as much as possible.

We have three tiers of sponsorship options:

£1,800 – sponsor a rider. This would enable either someone from your company to take part in the ride or enable a young person who we will connect you with to join. This covers the full cost of one individual rider on the event, including their accommodation, meals, support vehicles, tour leaders and guides.

Name and logo to be featured on event webpage and logo to be added to jersey of sponsored rider.

£5,000 – sponsor a rider and one young person. This covers the cost of an individual rider, either yourself or someone from your company, as well as supporting an additional young person to enter the ride. Options to sponsor two young people.

Name and logo to be featured on event webpage and all printed and digital collateral. Logo added to the jersey of supported riders.

£10,000 – headline sponsorship. Enter one rider and help us to reduce the entry fee to all riders by £400.

Name and logo to be featured on event webpage and all printed and digital collateral. Logo added to the jersey of supported riders and included on backdrop banners. Acknowledgement in PR releases and social media posts.

In kind support – we are also gratefully accepting in-kind support for event resources and services that would help to reduce event costs. For example: event transportation or cycling jerseys.

This list is not exclusive – if you have specific ideas or would like to discuss a bespoke sponsorship option, please get in touch.

If you would like to discuss sponsorship opportunities further, please email robert.brown@emcancertrust.org

pie Guides

The Largs to Cowes Charity Cycle Challenge is a guided ride with groups being led by pie guides who help all abilities complete the challenge. For those not familiar with the pie guiding system:

  • We offer guided rides to make sure we offer the very best care to our cyclists.
  • All our guides are experienced cyclists. They range from ex-professional racers to keen. amateurs, and all are very used to guiding groups of differing abilities, experience, and skills.
  • All our guides will navigate their small group of 8 – 10 cyclists from start to finish.
  • They are on hand to do mechanical work so there is no waiting around for a mechanic’s van.
  • Many pie guides are first aid trained.
  • On most days cyclists can change groups (up or down) at any time during the day.
  • We make the ride suitable for most standards of cyclists (bar complete beginners) – check the minimum daily distances and elevations to make sure you are happy with your level of fitness vs the challenge above and then start some training to minimise the gap!
