About Sophia

Imagine being told the devastating news that you have not one, but two rare forms of cancer. And if that wasn’t enough, you’re then told that the only way to save your life is to undergo a leg amputation below the knee.

Picture the overwhelming emotional and physical strain of enduring the harsh treatment of chemotherapy – the brutal side effects, the nausea, hair loss, and exhaustion – and then having to relearn the basic act of walking.

Now imagine all of this when you were just 10 years of age!

This is Sophia’s story, and instead of allowing cancer to define her life and control her future, she is using her tale to inspire people; whilst raising crucial awareness of childhood cancer.

Sophia was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma and Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumour.

Sophia not only learned to walk again, but she also took it upon herself to learn how to ride a bike! Now age 13, she’s taken on a new passion for riding and is using it to show the world that nothing can stop her! As a young amputee who has already kicked cancer’s butt, she’s now taking on the incredible challenge of riding 100k on a tandem!

Every single day, 10 innocent children and young adults have their lives turned upside down by the devastating impact of cancer. Tragically, 240 of these precious souls lose their battle with this brutal fight each year!

By participating in Sophia’s challenge, you will be helping her in raising vital awareness of this cruel disease; you will help people to understand the trauma and crippling treatments that children go through; and you will be working with Sophia to reach a wider audience to educate people on the signs and symptoms because we all know that early detection can save lives.
Sophia has chosen to raise funds for Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund, which will allow other children like her to receive the lifeline of care they provide to families to the point of diagnosis, through treatment and beyond! Most importantly, by signing up you will become a part of Sophia’s story, sharing in the joy of watching her triumph over the disease whilst having the experience of her lifetime.

We are delighted and feel honoured to support Sophia’s in 100k cycling challenge.

The time has come for cyclists to accept Sophia’s challenge and ride with her! This event is open to all abilities.

This loop, signed ride will be starting and finishing at Bluewater Shopping Centre and exploring the very best Kent can offer over your choice of a 50k or 100k.  This one-day loop ride is open to supporters of Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund to raise funds for the charity’s vital work.

Sophia herself will be on a tandem which will be propelled by Graeme Knott a Guinness Book of World Records holder who was part of the team that went from Land’s End to John O’Groats in the fastest time on a triple tandem. This will be an inspirational day out for all cyclists!

Kent, known as the Garden of England, has so much to offer cyclists. Famous cathedrals and castles, historic dockyards and breweries, Churchill’s home, Chartwell, and even vineyards like Chapel Down, suppliers to Downing Street!

About the Charity

Every year, approximately 1800 children are diagnosed with cancer, with one in every five dying.

Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund has been a lifeline for children and families dealing with the trauma and heartbreak of a childhood cancer diagnosis for the past 30 years.

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the chaos that ensues is only the beginning of a long, difficult, and traumatic journey for the family. Along with the chaos in their daily lives, it is financially and emotionally devastating to the family. Lennox is there for these families from the time of diagnosis through treatment and beyond to help and support them. We offer a comprehensive, all encompassing care plan to meet the needs of the entire family. Furthermore, we offer free respite breaks for families to spend time together relaxing, recharging, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

“Lennox helped reunite us with our fun, frivolous sides – Sides that had been battered and beaten up over the many treatment cycles. It was nice feeling like us again.”
Cassia, mother of Serapha
