Great British Care Cycle Relay 2026 - Insurance & Nutrition

The aim of the relay is to raise awareness and the profile of care in our communities, so there is no registration fee. We would love it if you could commit to raising £100 to support Championing Social Care’s work – there’s a GoFundMe page set up, and we can help you promote it.

This week, we are going to focus on the start location for day 2. Riders will start at Timperley Care Home in Altrincham.

Timperley Care Home offers a comfortable and thoughtfully designed living environment, with spacious bedrooms, welcoming communal areas and attractive gardens. Residents can enjoy a sense of community while maintaining their independence, supported by modern features such as en‑suite rooms, Wi‑Fi and discreet safety systems. Daily life is shaped around individual interests, with home‑cooked meals, time outdoors and a varied programme of activities that encourage connection, wellbeing and enjoyment in a relaxed, homely setting.

They provide excellent and compassionate care for their dementia patients and those with mental health conditions and offer personalised care packages for all their residents.

Insurance

pie will take all due precautions to look after your bike throughout the event. However, pie will not accept any liability for damage or theft of bikes while in its care, and so suitable insurance will need to be arranged by the cyclists.

The increase in value of a bike has far outpaced the increase in the single-item limit value on a standard home contents insurance policy. Whereas a standard single item limit might be £250, a bike can easily be 10 times that amount. We therefore recommend that your home contents insurance policy states your make and model of your bike, along with its estimated value.

pie is affiliated with Yellow Jersey insurance, who will be able to provide bike insurance for you. Click here for more details and get 10% off using code PIEEVENTS10.

Nutrition

We will provide OTE Sports Hydro Tabs and/or SiS electrolyte powders for cyclists. Each tablet is naturally flavoured, light, refreshing and contains the important electrolytes sodium, potassium and magnesium. We will also provide SiS energy gels.

You are welcome to bring your own preferred brand of gels and tabs.
