Great British Care Cycle Relay 2026 - Kit List & Sustainability

Thank you for signing up for the Great British Care Cycle Relay! Your participation is helping to shine a light on the incredible work of the care sector while fostering connections within communities across the UK.

The Great British Cycle Care Relay is one of a number of initiatives intended to raise awareness of the vital role the Care Homes sector plays in our communities.

Alongside the Cycle Care Relay, Championing Social Care organise a variety of different events throughout the year – not all of them involving physical activity.

Kit List

It’s important to make sure you have all the right kit before taking on the ride. Especially making sure you wear in any new bits of kit and get used to them beforehand. Below is what we strongly suggest you bring with you for your ride.

  • Bike (a road bike is highly recommended)
  • Helmet (mandatory)
  • Bike pump (that either fits on your bike, or transported in your cycle jersey)
  • Spare tubes to fit your wheels
  • 1 or 2 water bottles in cages on your bike
  • Cycle shorts
  • Cycle jersey
  • Cycle gloves
  • Wet weather gear
  • Sun-cream
  • Any specialist equipment needed for your bike
  • Energy Gels (optional) – we will provide SiS
  • Mobile phone (with zip lock bag to put it in in case of rain)
  • Cash

And remember, bike helmets are MANDATORY on all of our rides. No helmet, no ride.

Sustainability

pie are proud to hold B Corp accreditation. B Corp standards emphasise social and environmental impact, ethical practices and accountability in an organisation’s operations. With a score of 107.8 we hold the highest score in the industry.

Sustainability is very important to us at pie which is why our environmental vision is to construct and deliver events in such a way as to minimise the effect on the environment, without increasing costs to the client or participant, without reducing the event’s ability to challenge and excite participants, and to generate funds for charities where relevant.

This is why we:

  • Replaced all single-use dishes and cutlery with compostable alternatives to reduce waste.
  • Provide free reusable water bottles.
  • Encourage participants to offset their travel.
  • Offer vegetarian and vegan food options and avoid fish and seafood on our menus where possible.
  • Swapped physical information given out on an event to a digital format.
  • Partner with organisations collecting unwanted/damaged/worn out sports apparel.
  • Plus much more…

We are always looking at new ways to improve our sustainability practices – let us know if you know of any great initiatives.
