Andrew Payne
2012 was my first season of working with PiE and have found the events a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
I’ve had a bike for most of my life. As a child it was the only means of transport but from my late teens the bike was replaced by a car. I got back into cycling about 8 years ago as a means to keep fit during the summer with the expectation of riding 2-3 times a week on warm dry days. Two weeks after purchasing a new bike I got bored, did my first 10mile time-trial and since then cycling has escalated to a 7 day a week activity. Last year I cycled over 10,000 miles. This year is looking like a similar mileage despite the cool wet days.
My cycling includes:
- Working with British Cycling / Sky as a leader on their Skyrides programme
- Hardcore training for timetrials
- Racing in timetrails of 10, 25, 50 & 100 miles along with a few non standard distances
- Commuting into central London from my home in Maidenhead
- Club group rides.
I am a Bikeablity level 3 qualified coach and a part qualified British Cycling coach. As time allows, I spend time at schools helping children become confident at road cycling and support my clubs coaching activities to introduce children into competative cycling.
