Gemma is a passionate doctor who thrives within the multidisciplinary team, working with others, to achieve a common goal. She is hardworking, conscientious and keen to work in the field of Expedition Medicine.
In 2007 Gemma took a year out from medical education to work full time with the Great Britain Cycling Team under the supervision of psychiatrist Dr Steve Peters. She worked with academy and junior cyclists from a range of cycling disciplines. Her role was to use psychological tools to prepare athletes for day to day training and competition. She was part of the vast multidisciplinary team who aimed to achieve marginal gains for overall success. This ethos, led by Dave Brailsford, led to the Olympic success of Beijing 2008.
