14 May Experience the Giro yourself
The Giro d’Italia got underway last week with a historic start. For the first time in its 108-year history, the opening three stages took place in Albania, marking only the 15th time the race has begun outside Italy.
Over 21 stages, riders will cover more than 3,400km and climb a staggering 52,350m, averaging 164km per day. The route includes legendary ascents such as the Mortirolo and Colle delle Finestre, both renowned for their steep gradients and punishing beauty.
This year, Tadej Pogačar is notably absent, opting to focus on the Tour de France. Without the defending champion, we’re set for a thrillingly open race. Check out the route by clicking the image below.
Have you ever imagined yourself riding in the tracks of the pros?
At pie, we’ve been fortunate to ride across Italy many times, following the paths of the Giro and soaking in the landscapes that make it one of the world’s most iconic cycling destinations.
This year’s route features multiple stages in Tuscany, the heart of the Italian Renaissance, known for its well preserved hilltop medieval villages. Our ride takes you from the top to the bottom of Tuscany through the vineyards of Montepulciano to the historic cities of Siena and Florence. With multiple route options each day, you can choose between challenging climbs for that extra thrill or gentler ascents for a more relaxed ride.
Our Mare a Mare (coast to coast) route crosses Italy from Pesaro (east coast) to Livorno (west coast). Crossing through Umbria and Tuscany, incorporating Giro d’Italia climbs, Roman Roads and famous Chianti vineyards. Highlights include riding through five areas of Natural Beauty and multiple route options per day, meaning the ride is suitable for all standards of cyclist.
In past years, we’ve also tackled the legendary Stelvio Pass, the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps at 2,757m. Our 4-day route through the region begins in Treviso and includes three 100-mile days, breath-taking scenery, lakeside accommodation at Lake Garda, and the iconic Stelvio climb.
