Itinerary

Day 1 – Fly to Malaga

Transfer from Malaga to Capileira and to the National Park barrier. Change into biking gear when we arrive and depending on flight times, lunch will either be on arrival at Capileira, or on the coach on the transfer up.

We set up our bikes and start cycling up from the national park barrier (2100m) to the Poqueira refuge (2500m) where we will spend the night. Accommodation is in dorms of between 6-24 people. Dinner at the refuge.

Day 2 – Poqueira

Breakfast in the refuge, and we collect our packed lunch for the day. We set off to summit Alcazaba (3369m), the third highest mountain in the Iberian peninsula. This will take approximately 3 hours. From here we descend to Siete Lagunas before we ascend to the summit of Mulhacen (3846m), the highest mountain on the Iberian peninsula. From here we descend back to the Poquiera refuge trekking down to 2500m and our second nights accommodation. Dinner in the refuge.

Day 3 – Poqueira

We have breakfast in the refuge, and start crossing the Sierra Nevada by mountain bike. Setting off up the highest road in Europe, via a col passing Mulhacén and Veleta taking about 4 hours. We cross the Sierra Nevada mountain range going down the north side, past the ski resort of Pradollano at 2000m, stopping for lunch at a refuge, and down into Guejar Sierra (another 2 hours). We finally start enjoying the gentle down hill and final 10 kms into Granada where we finish in central Granada with dinner and accommodation.

Day 4 – Granada

Before our flight to the UK, we have a morning to explore Granada and possibly the Alhambra, for a cultural experience in this wonderful Moorish city.
